The Economy of Pleasure
The Economy of Pleasure is a performance in the form of a training facility where the visitor confronts his or her difficulties of experiencing rapture.

In simulated situations the visitors are aided to overcome their personal obstacles and fears connected to the act of letting go, of having “fun”. The practice ends when visitors and trainers jointly perform a rapturous re-enactment of the exercises.

The Economy of Pleasure was selected for the Swedish Biennial of Performing Arts and has gained national attention in Sweden.

Co-produced by: MDT and Key Performance

”The Economy of Pleasure” is carried out with a low-voiced good mood and an absolute respect for the individual visitor. With a tone of mild seriousness I am guided through ”the good life” and the self-glorifying rituals of the brats. The subversive message is hard to miss, unless the different challenges makes you too nervous, including the finale when each team is dancing a choreography on the main stage. Luckily a classic reward is awaiting us. Hot dogs.”

”At first it’s hard to let go of your inhibitions, but the members of the group [Poste Restante] – who totally have abdicated from the role of actors and instead function as coaches – guides you through your inner darkness, here in the sense of what you experience as fun. And, without saying too much, it is fun. Especially the final scene and the relieving peripeteia that actually looks a lot like a real performance – with you in the leading role. ”
