Night Watch
Night watch is a performance that opens a sacred room for profane human needs. At night, a red light is seen trough the windows and the doors is unlocked, open for visitors. Visitors are offered warm milk, silence and a bed in the aisle. She is invited to rest for a moment, or sleep until the morning comes being watched over. Night Watch works under the assumption that human needs, such as sleep, are sacred.
Visitors are never asked for the reason of their need, whether it is the need of a place to stay overnight, away from cold and violent streets, or the architectural experience of lying down in the aisle of a church. At Night Watch all human needs are sacred.
Commissioned by the Cathedral parish of Stockholm for the Year of Culture 2008 in S:t Jacobs Church.
