The Electees / هيئه المنتخبين
The Electees is a sound work in which the visitors are offered the possibility to experience the paradoxes that arise when representative democracy is put into practice. By clear instructions from an earpiece, you are lead into the municipality’s council assembly room and through an emotionally authorized meeting in which decisions has to be made – decisions that have consequences for people beyond yourself. Together with the other electees you will re-enact the choreography and ritual of the meeting in a soundscape composed with opera and movement. Original music for The Electees composed by Mats Erlandsson.
The Electees is a performance about the friction that may occur when the task to represent the ones who have elected you due to your conviction has to fit into the tight choreography of democracy. Moving through the score of a meeting – at times in harmony, at times in dissonance – you are invited to experience the conflicts in the realms of democracy with your conviction of its necessity at stake.
The Electees was made specifically for Vetlanda. The work was performed in the municipality’s council assembly room in Vetlanda Town Hall. Until New Year "The Vertigo of Empowerment" - an installation of material related to the performance - will be exhibited at Vetlanda Museum.
The Electees was commissioned and co-produced by Side-Show in cooperation with Vetlanda Museum.
